Winter League Update – Week 4

Hey kids…Here’s the details on this week!

  1. Games are on! PLEASE WATCH THE MUD IN THE Parking Lot. Do not drive your cars through the ditch. Use the driveway approaches in order to get to the parking on the grass.
  2. Food this week: Food this week are pre-made ham, turkey, and roast beef croissants and also turkey & swiss wraps.  The vegetarian option, and only for vegetarians, are vege-burrito’s.  There will also be asst. chips and crisps.
  3. Speeding through the Parking Lot is a no-no – First time we catch you is a verbal warning. Second is bye-bye for the following week.
  4. Dogs on leashes – 1st is a warning, second is your dog doesn’t come out, third is you don’t come out.
  5. Shirts – Please arrive early to get  your shirt if you haven’t picked it up yet. Check with your captains to see if they picked up your shirts. If you haven’t paid, no shirt. (And you shouldn’t be playing.”
  6. Informal Beginner’s Clinics – We still have experienced players showing up early to help you out. If you get to the fields by 11, there will be someone to work on throws and game knowledge with. Take advantage of elite (and some good “coaches”) giving up their time to get you good at disc!
  7. Unpaid – If for some reason ya haven’t paid, ya need to get that fixed, ASAP. WL accepts Cash, Check or CC and will have staff available to take payment prior to games on Saturday.
  8. Rain checking – Game is on. Game is on.
  9. Car Pool – If you’re interested in car pooling, please join the DWL Car Pool Organizing Board group on Facebook.

Week 3 – Welcome Back

Hey hey! Welcome back! We’re excited to see you. Matter of fact, we’ve done nothing but eat holiday cookies and cakes because of our depression from NOT seeing you. But since we get to see you on Saturday, we’re switching back to our normal schedule of cheez-its and Kool-aid.

See below for all your Dallas Winter League Week 3 News!

Week 2 – All Games CANCELED!

All games tomorrow are CANCELED!

There is a ton of standing water on the fields from four straight days of rain and the sunshine we’re getting today is too little, too late.

This week’s games will be made up on February 18th, the scheduled week off. The rest of the games will be played as scheduled. Tell your friends.

See you guys January 7th, happy holidays.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! Revised Recreational Schedule

Due to an oversight on my part, the rec schedule we distributed last week had a few teams never play each other.  I’ve updated the schedule, and we will distribute copies of the revised schedule to team captains this week.  Revisions are highlighted green.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

Schedules and Field Maps!

Below are the schedules for both the recreational and competitive leagues, as well as a field map for this year. Please heed the warnings about driving slowly and staying out of the stable area. Those horses are ridiculously valuable and we like having somewhere to play.

Peace, Love, and Dallas Winter League. It’s time!

Calling All Volunteers!

Howdy folks!

As you know, Dallas Winter League is an entirely volunteer run organization put together by the Dallas Ultimate Association.  Unfortunately the DUA isn’t gigantic enough to handle every single task that’s required to ensure Winter League goes off without a hitch, which is where you come in.

Every year we rely on the help of dozens of volunteers to help us handle everything from field lining to food setup, player registration and check-in, even policing the fields after we’re done to ensure we leave them as pristine as we’ve found them.

This Thursday the very studly Robert “Turkey” Cropper will be spearheading field lining from 10:00am to 3:00pm.  I know many of us work during those hours, but anyone that has a few hours in the middle of the day to give to your beloved Winter League will be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, we’ll be needing a handful of volunteers Saturday morning to run player check-in tables starting at 10:30.

If you’d like to get involved and help with lining or check-in, or if you can’t help this week, but would like it to be known that you’re willing to help, please contact us at dwl@dallasultimate.org and we’ll keep you in mind.

Again, field lining is Thursday from 10am to 3pm and check-in will be Saturday morning starting at 10:30am.

With your help we can make this year’s the best Dallas Winter League yet!

Beginner’s Clinics – 11am on Dec. 10th and 17th

Flick? Force side? Marks? What does it all mean?

There are a number of unique skills (and a ton of jargon) that are specific to ultimate frisbee. Becoming familiar with them will help you understand and enjoy Winter League to its fullest. We can help with that. Read the full post to find out how to avoid long lines to get your disc AND learn how to use that disc.

Winter League 11-12 Artwork

Every year one of everyone’s favorite things about our beloved Winter League is, of course, the rockin’ artwork for both our recreational and competitive divisions, and the sweet new disc design that every paid registrant receives.

This year will be no exception, and without further ado, I give you this year’s artwork.

We’ll see you all real soon.

Your Co-Poobahs,

Alex Lepe & Glenngory Burr
