2/18/12 – NO GAMES!
Feb 18
Updates For February 11th
Feb 10
Only three weeks of games to go before the tournament, make sure you’re out there every week to help your team get prime seeding! It will be quite chilly tomorrow, so be sure to bundle up!
If for whatever reason you cannot make the games this weekend, please let your captains know IMMEDIATELY! Big D In Little D is taking place tomorrow and Sunday and we don’t want decimated teams to be caught unaware with only six people out for the week having to play savage and a man down.
Rec players, bear in mind that from here on out all games will be played according to the revised rec schedule which can be found here: http://dallaswinterleague.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/rec11-12-v2.jpg
Food this weekend will be Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwiches! Please be considerate of your fellow ultimate players and only take one. If there are sandwiches left over after everyone’s gotten one then, AND ONLY THEN, you’re welcome to get a second.
I love dogs, I really do, I even had a dog once, so I can appreciate that some of you want to bring your dog out so you have someone to help you break down your performance for the day once you get home, but if you bring a dog out, be sure to have your dog on a leash at all times and have the leash staked to the ground the entire time you’re on the field please.
Please be courteous to our hosts at the polo grounds and continue to drive slowly through the parking lot. I haven’t seen too many egregious violations, that’s a good thing!
Finally, a note about SPIRIT OF THE GAME:
I won’t bore you with a giant copy-paste of the premise behind SOTG, though I recommend you read it, but please remember the cardinal rule of not only spirit, but a pretty good life lesson as a whole. DON’T BE A JERK! Nobody wants to play against jerks, nobody wants to be on a team with jerks, jerks tend not to play well in a crowd. If there’s a foul, feel free to call it. If you disagree with a FOUL CALLED ON YOU, contest it! There is absolutely ZERO reason for anyone other than the players involved and perhaps the captains to have any say about a call on the field.
Captains, I’m taking to you. Show your experience and some maturity when dealing with calls and questions about the rules please.
There’s a method to the madness here, folks. The reason captains have been asked to turn in spirit forms all year is because *drum roll please* THIS YEAR WE HAVE FIVE, SAVAGE AND VC ON BOARD WITH DONATIONS TO THE LEAGUE WHICH WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SPIRIT WINNERS! Monitor your behavior, think twice before you open your mouth, and so forth, and you may be in line to get some sweet, sweet ultimate swagg just for being cool people.
As always, please support those that support us, Hard Eight BBQ, Sea Blue Travel, Nationwide Overspray, The Idle Rich Pub, Dallas Natural Childbirth, and the aforementioned apparel companies. Keep an eye out for a more fleshed out e-mail detailing what these fine folks do for the league and what they can do for you!

January 28th – ALL GAMES ON!
Jan 27
Little rain here and there? Fear not!
All games are ON this weekend! Big ups to Turkey for going out and checking them out for us. Seriously, if you see this guy walking around, get that man a drink! He certainly earned it.
We’re going to shift fields a little bit to avoid oversquishy end zones, so make sure you pay attention to cones for your boundaries… not that the lines were very visible any more anyway.
Which brings up the fact that we’ll need a handful of volunteers next Thursday to re-line the fields. If you’re available Thursday afternoon, please let us know at dwl@dallasultimate.org.
Field 6 is likely to not be playable, so we’re likely to move that field over to the open unused field space so keep that in mind if your rec captains are Lauren, Alex, Carol, Commander, Garlyn, or Glenn.
Food this weekend is Hard Eight BBQ, so play your butt off to build up that appetite!
Finally, please be extra careful getting in and out of the parking lot this weekend.
We always need to be mindful of speed, but this week everyone needs to be extra careful about getting in and out of the parking lot since the area around it has been described as “moat-ish.” Please look for the least muddy way in to avoid cars getting stuck in the mud.
See you guys out there bright and noony!
Bibbidy, bobbidy, POOBAHS!

- Schedule — This is the first week of revised REC schedule. You’re all big enough boys and girls to check it out and make sure you end up in the right place.
- Scores: Captains — captains can now update your regular scores on the page all by yourselves. If you want to guarantee correct scores, update them by logging into the dallaswinterleague.com site.
- Spirit Scores — Please continue to submit your spirit scores to Glenn. If you don’t submit at least 80% of your scores for your opponents, you won’t be eligible to receive the schwag that team spirit winners get. We’ll be posting the current spirit standings and I’ll let you know what weeks you’re missing after this week’s play.
- Dallas Ultimate Facebook Page – So you don’t read email? Join the Dallas Ultimate facebook page for all your winter league info, pick-up games, spring league news and more.
- Food this week: Hot italian discs filled with meat, veggies, cheese and sauce. You’ll love it in your mouth.
- Doggies — Please, Please be careful about your dogs. The safety of our players is first. Your dog’s presence at the fields is second. Watch out for your dogs and be willing to stake them behind an end zone. They won’t miss you too much and they’ll still get to enjoy winter league.
- The Parking Lot — 1st time speeding is a warning. Second time is you don’t come to Winter League for a week.
- Shirts – Please arrive early to get your shirt if you haven’t picked it up yet. Check with your captains to see if they picked up your shirts. If you haven’t paid, no shirt. Noon is not early.
- Informal Beginner’s Clinics – We still have experienced players showing up early to help you out. If you get to the fields by 11, there will be someone to work on throws and game knowledge with. Take advantage of elite (and some good “coaches”) giving up their time to get you good at disc!
- Unpaid — If for some reason ya haven’t paid, ya need to get that fixed, ASAP. WL accepts Cash, Check or CC and will have staff available to take payment prior to games on Saturday. If you show up at noon and expect us to give you your shirt or pay…Think again. Be there by 11:30 to get your business done.
- Rain checking – Game is on. Game is on.
- Car Pool — If you’re interested in car pooling, please join the DWL Car Pool Organizing Board group on Facebook.
Week 3 – Welcome Back
Jan 7
Hey hey! Welcome back! We’re excited to see you. Matter of fact, we’ve done nothing but eat holiday cookies and cakes because of our depression from NOT seeing you. But since we get to see you on Saturday, we’re switching back to our normal schedule of cheez-its and Kool-aid.

Week 2 – All Games CANCELED!
Dec 16
All games tomorrow are CANCELED!
There is a ton of standing water on the fields from four straight days of rain and the sunshine we’re getting today is too little, too late.
This week’s games will be made up on February 18th, the scheduled week off. The rest of the games will be played as scheduled. Tell your friends.
See you guys January 7th, happy holidays.

Calling All Volunteers!
Dec 6
Howdy folks!
As you know, Dallas Winter League is an entirely volunteer run organization put together by the Dallas Ultimate Association. Unfortunately the DUA isn’t gigantic enough to handle every single task that’s required to ensure Winter League goes off without a hitch, which is where you come in.
Every year we rely on the help of dozens of volunteers to help us handle everything from field lining to food setup, player registration and check-in, even policing the fields after we’re done to ensure we leave them as pristine as we’ve found them.
This Thursday the very studly Robert “Turkey” Cropper will be spearheading field lining from 10:00am to 3:00pm. I know many of us work during those hours, but anyone that has a few hours in the middle of the day to give to your beloved Winter League will be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, we’ll be needing a handful of volunteers Saturday morning to run player check-in tables starting at 10:30.
If you’d like to get involved and help with lining or check-in, or if you can’t help this week, but would like it to be known that you’re willing to help, please contact us at dwl@dallasultimate.org and we’ll keep you in mind.
Again, field lining is Thursday from 10am to 3pm and check-in will be Saturday morning starting at 10:30am.
With your help we can make this year’s the best Dallas Winter League yet!
There are NO GAMES this weekend, so please don’t go bother the nice people at the polo fields, and instead make your way down to Greenville and enjoy the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and subsequent Toadies concert!
March 19th is the last weekend of regular season play, tournament play for both the recreational and competitive divisions will be held the following Saturday, March 26th.
I don’t know if there have been wacky rumors going around lately, but even though this weekend is the Mardi Gras tournament somewhere in remote Louisiana, ALL GAMES WILL BE PLAYED AS SCHEDULED!
We had a few tough decisions to make about the schedule before the season started and this was one of them, so please make sure you show up for your team since your presence is a lot more likely to be integral this week.
Links to the full schedule can be found a few posts down.
Giant sheet of ice on the fields and all roads leading to the fields that’s not likely to start melting until sometime Saturday afternoon means there will be NO GAMES this weekend!
This week’s games will be made up next Saturday the 12th, and the rest of the season will play out as scheduled.
Stay warm out there!
